McCarty played for the Knicks from 1996 to 1997, the Boston Celtics from 1997 to 2005, the Phoenix Suns in 2005, and the Los Angeles Clippers from 2005 to 2006. He then moved into coaching and was an assistant coach at Louisville from 2007 to 2010. He served as an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers from 2010 to 2011 and became an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics in 2013. He released the album Moment for Love in 2003.
