He worked as an assistant animator for the TV series The Raccoons in 1989. DeBlois also directed the How to Train Your Dragon film series and served as executive producer for the 2nd and 3rd parts. In 2014 he won a Hollywood Film Award for Animation of the Year for How to Train Your Dragon 2. DeBlois was also nominated for an Academy Award in 2011 for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year for How to Train Your Dragon.
